Carmichael SDA Church Bulletin

I’ve never appreciated that sort of person who gives me directions by saying something like - “Head on down to the stop sign and then turn NORTH.” Wait….north? How am I supposed to know which direction north is, in the daytime? Why can’t you just say “turn left” or “turn right?” Nobody has time to find the sun and figure the time and think about which direction is North! I don’t automatically know North.

Unless…..it’s dark outside.

At night time, if it isn’t cloudy and the stars are out, my eyes will be searching the sky first thing for the Big Dipper. And once I find it, I’ll line up those two bottom stars, draw an imaginary arrow, and follow it right on over to the North Star. And when I find North, I immediately know west, east, and south. I know where I am.

This week at VBS we’ve enjoyed an Alaska-themed adventure called “True North - Trusting Jesus in a Wild World.” Kids have learned through games, stories, songs and science experiments that when they feel alone, hopeless, helpless, powerless, or full of questions - they can still trust Jesus. Like the North Star in the night sky, fixing our eyes on Jesus can lead us through the dark times of life.

This Sabbath, join us for a church service presented to you completely by children - yep - even the sermon - 4 young ladies let me know that they should be preaching on children’s Sabbath instead of me, and how can anyone say no to that?!

I’m so thankful for a special church like Carmichael, where our young people are welcome to participate, empowered to lead, and celebrated as they develop. You won’t want to miss this Sabbath!!
